La Jolla is one of the most pretigious neighborhoods in San Diego county. In views, design and money some of La Jolla’s streets will rival the best in the nation. The words La Jolla mean “Jewel By The Sea” which is a perfect description of this seaside paradise.

Just in from the shore, LaJolla rises sharply into the hills and bluffs, split by ravines, hence the views. Some homes, incredible structures, sit on bluffs high above the pacific.

The heart of the shopping strip is Prospect street which is home to many specialty stores, boutiques, shops and restaurants. If you get tired of shopping just walk down the street to the ocean and relax awhile

Hotels, offices, high rise buildings and shopping centers have been built east of I5. Many LaJolla residents dine and shop in this area referred to as University Towne Center.

Local elementary schools post scores in the 80^th and 90^th percentiles statewide. In 2002 La Jolla high school won permission from the school district to pretty much run itself as the faculty sees fit. The school usually hits the 97^th and 98^th percentiles in its rankings, the top 3% in the state.

Summing up LaJolla. From its incenption in the 1800’s it has always attracted the rich and the cultured. Now its residents are mostly college educated professionals interested in the arts and what is going on in the world. Traveled and active they read..they support the schools and they have opinions.
